Tue 13 June 2023:

UK’s defence ministry says “Russia has likely moved from receiving small deliveries of Iranian OWA-UAVs [one-way attack unmanned aerial vehicles] by air transport, to larger consignments by ship from Iran via the Caspian Sea.”

In November, Tehran confirmed the country had sold drones to Russia but said this had been “months” before the start of the war in Ukraine.

“Russia is also working to start domestic production of OWA-UAVs, almost certainly with Iranian assistance,” the ministry added in a tweet.

Russia says its forces captured German tanks and US-made fighting vehicles in Ukraine

Russia’s defence ministry has released video footage of what it claims were German-made Leopard tanks and US-made Bradley fighting vehicles captured by Russian forces in a battle with Ukrainian forces.

The location and timing of the video footage has not been independently verified.

In a message on Telegram, the ministry said:

Servicemen of the subdivisions of the Vostok group inspect enemy tanks and infantry fighting vehicles captured in battle.

All captured western-made equipment: German Leopard tanks and US-made BMP Bradley.

Some combat vehicles with running engines, which indicates the transience of the battle and the flight of the crews of combat vehicles of the armed forces of Ukraine from combat-ready equipment.

US expected to send ‘Depleted-Uranium’ tank rounds to Ukraine: WSJ

The US is expected to send “Depleted-Urainium” tank rounds to Ukraine, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

In May, the British government also announced it will provide Ukraine with armour-piercing rounds containing depleted uranium – a byproduct of the uranium-enrichment process needed to create nuclear weapons.

While the tanks are not bombs, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has described such ammunition as “chemically and radiologically toxic heavy metal”.
