RUSSIA TO PUNISH WIKIMEDIA FOUNDATION OVER “FAKES” IN UKRAINE WAR

The Wikimedia Foundation, which runs the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, was punish by Russia’s communications watchdog on Wednesday for breaking the law in relation to the conflict in Ukraine.

Wikipedia still hosted “prohibited materials, including fakes about the course of the special military operation on the territory of Ukraine”, and that search engines would be used to inform users that Wikimedia violated Russian law, according to a statement from Roskomnadzor,

Roskomnadzor said the measures would remain in place until Wikimedia Foundation becomes fully compliant with Russian law.

Shortly after the Kremlin ordered tens of thousands of troops to deploy to the country on February 24, Russia unveiled comprehensive new laws on the sharing of information about the conflict in Ukraine.
