Mon 16 August 2021:
The Taliban’s control of Afghanistan will affect Israel’s security, former Defence Minister, Moshe Ya’alon, warned yesterday.
“Despite the great distance between Afghanistan and Israel, the withdrawal of the United States forces and the Taliban’s control over the country will have repercussions on Washington’s position in the Middle East, and on Israel’s security,” Ya’alon wrote on Twitter.

In Israel and elsewhere in the region, some have pointed to links between the Sunni Taliban and the Palestinian Hamas group, sharing pictures that appeared to show Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh meeting with Taliban leadership in Doha sometime this year.

On Twitter, senior Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzouk said the Taliban’s victory was “a lesson for all oppressed peoples.”
“The Taliban are victorious today after being accused of backwardness & terrorism. it became more pragmatic. They have stood up to the US & its agents refusing compromise, they have not been fooled by slogans like democracy & elections. This is a lesson for all oppressed peoples,” he wrote.

Afghan media recently reported that President Ashraf Ghani had left the country for Tajikistan as Taliban forces were entering the borders of the capital Kabul.
Other sources close to the Taliban told Afghanistan’s TOLOnews that the group and the government had reached a deal, which stipulated that Ghani leaves his post and hand over power to a transitional government.
