Mon 02 August 2021:
On Sunday, US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci warned the US that it will experience “some pain and suffering in the future,” but ruled out any new Covid lockdowns.
Fauci, speaking on a local media channel’s program, stated that America should brace itself for a difficult few days ahead because the Delta variant has resulted in an increase in coronaviruscases across the country.
“I don’t think we’re gonna see lockdowns. I think we have enough of the percentage of people in the country — not enough to crush the outbreak — but I believe enough to not allow us to get into the situation we were in last winter. But things are going to get worse.”
However, he has also assured that enough people are now vaccinated to avoid a repeat of last winter’s catastrophe-like situation.
Fauci has also urged people to get vaccinated against coronavirus as soon as possible as he believes “we are seeing an outbreak of the unvaccinated”.
While US President Joe Biden stated that the country may face new restrictions as a result of tthe widespread of the Delta variant, Fauci denied the possibility of a new lockdown in the country.
“I don’t think we’re going to see lockdowns,” he said on ABC’s show This Week.
His statement has come after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changed the mask mandate and asked people in high-risk areas to start wearing masks even indoors.
The US government is constantly informing people that the best and most efficient strategy to combat the coronavirus epidemic is to get vaccinated.
“If you’re vaccinated right now, your likelihood of getting severely sick is 25-fold reduced,” Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health told local media.
He also believes that people are getting the message of getting vaccinated as the vaccination rates have increased in the past few weeks.
