Fri 26 March 2021:
Late Wednesday, Axios reported, citing anonymous sources, that Trump is considering partnering with the new platform called FreeSpace to create his own social media network.
“That would be a wonderful development to tell everyone about but I don’t have any news or info to report at this time,” Magolnick, the CEO of The Red Flag Image Company, a full service reputation and image building/repair firm, said when asked to confirm the report.
Trump’s senior adviser Jason Miller told Fox News on March 21 the entrepreneur would make a return to social media in “probably about two or three months here, with his own platform.”
Trump was banned or suspended from nearly all major social media apps including Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat in January following the Capitol riots.
FreeSpace, launched in Apple App Store and Google Play Store on February 1, includes typical social media features, such as a news feed, called an “activity wall” on FreeSpace, group messaging and a customizable profile.
The app’s website states it is based around “value reward systems” which aim to reward “good habits and healthy online interactions.”
It says: “FreeSpace encourages the public to share the daily actions & content they believe will add value to their lives and model healthy habits for others to duplicate.”
A screenshot of the app featured on the FreeSpace website shows what appear to be status update options that users can choose from. They include “worked out,” “meditated,” “got kids ready,” and “drank water.”
It is angled towards monetization and sponsorships and specifically highlights “entrepreneurs” in its description. Details about Trump’s reported interest in the app are unclear.
Meanwhile, Facebook‘s Oversight Board is still weighing up whether or not to allow Trump to continue using that platform.
Trump’s plans to create his own platform emerged after he was banned by social media giants, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube in the wake of the January 6 Capitol Hill riot. On Sunday, Trump’s spokesman said that the former president would be returning to social media in a few months with his own platform that was going to attract “tens of millions” of new users and “completely redefine the game.”
