Salah Al-din Ayyubi Mosque and Complex, the foundation of which was laid 6 years ago and where 25 thousand people can worship at the same time, was opened with a ceremony held with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The mosque, built by Diyarbakır businessman İhsan Arslan in the Yenişehir district, provides worship opportunities for up to 25,000 people at the same time, including the courtyard. The mosque, which has a closed area of 43,500 square meters, also includes a 700-person conference hall, a 1,500 square meter foyer and exhibition hall, and a 500-car parking lot.

There is also a 2,400 square meter cafeteria, library, and youth center, as well as office and education areas covering 4,000 square meters in the complex. The Salah Al-din Ayyubi Mosque, completed in six years, is expected to meet an important need of Diyarbakır, which has a population of over 1.8 million.

While the initial project belongs to Uğur Kınık, different architects contributed to the mosque, which mainly used the region’s basalt, white, and yellow stones, as well as Mesopotamian, Seljuk and Ottoman motifs.

The mosque’s four minarets and 56 domes, including the main dome, were constructed in an octagonal form. The names of Prophet Adam, Prophet Abraham, Prophet Moses, and Prophet Jesus were written on the four side doors of the mosque. Prophet Muhammad’s name appeared on the main door.

The Salah Al-din Ayyubi Mosque was opened for worship on Friday with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
