TÜRKIYE RANKS 7TH GLOBALLY, 1ST IN EUROPE IN AGRICULTURAL OUTPUT

Türkiye last year ranked seventh globally and first in Europe in agricultural output, the nation’s agriculture and forestry minister said Monday.

“Türkiye ranked 12th in the world in 2002 with agricultural output worth $24.5 billion. According to 2025 data, Türkiye rose to seventh globally and first in Europe with $83.2 billion,” Ibrahim Yumakli said in a lecture at the Social Sciences University of Ankara.

Rejecting claims that agriculture in Türkiye has declined and that the country depends heavily on imports, he said Türkiye is self-sufficient in many essential and strategic agricultural products.

He said 206 plant products are commercially cultivated in the country, while noting that it is not possible to domestically produce every agricultural product grown worldwide.

Yumakli also highlighted investments in irrigation infrastructure, saying the State Hydraulic Works has built more than 120,000 kilometers (74,565 miles) of infrastructure since 2002—enough to circle the globe three times over.

He also said Türkiye plants 500 million seeds and saplings annually and ranks first in Europe in afforestation.

On Nov. 11, 2025, a total of 14 million seeds and saplings were planted across the country in a single day, he added.

On Türkiye’s forest-fire response capacity, Yumakli said 28 aircraft and 119 helicopters actively took part in firefighting operations last year, while 14 unmanned aerial vehicles monitored the country.
