UN Human Rights Council meeting to begin in Geneva on Monday

42nd regular session of Council to continue until Sept. 27

The UN Human Rights Council will hold its 42nd regular session from 9 to 27 Sept. in Geneva.

High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet will open the session on Monday and update the Council on the situation of human rights worldwide.

During the session, the Council will examine over 90 reports on a wide range of issues presented by 25 human rights experts, groups, and mechanisms.

The human rights situations in Myanmar, Yemen, Ukraine, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Central African Republic and Georgia will also be on the agenda during the session.

The Council, which was created by UN General Assembly in 2006, made up of 47 states that are responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe.
