Fri 13 August 2021:

According to media reports citing documents from his lawyers, Britney Spears’ father, James Spears, has decided to step down as her conservator.

The singer told a Los Angeles court on June 23 that her family’s actions had traumatized her and made her miserable.

The 39-year-old alleged, among other things, that she was not permitted to visit her friends, that she was forced to work long hours against her choice, and that she was drugged when she disobeyed.

“Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.

So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator,” one of the documents says, as quoted by the TMZ news outlet.

The father had never forced his daughter to do anything, even performances, according to the affidavit.

Following a divorce in the late 2000s, Britney Spears, who was one of the most famous international singers at the turn of the century, struggled with mental health concerns as well as drug and alcohol addictions. She was placed under temporary conservatorship in 2008, which was later changed to a permanent conservatorship.
