EUROPEAN POWERS USE DISPUTE MECHANISM TO HANDLE IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL

Tue 14 January 2020:

European powers have triggered a dispute mechanism over the nuclear deal with Iran after the country took a further step back from its nuclear commitments.

Following the assassination of Iranian Major General Qasem Suleimani by the US in Baghdad airport and the unintentional crash of the Ukrainian passenger plane by Iran’s Quds Force, the sociopolitical situation took a drift in the region.

Meanwhile, Iran has suspended all limits on its production of enriched uranium, which can be used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear weapons. This bold act of Iran has raised tension among the European Nations and the US alike.

It is said that Iran took this step in retaliation to the sanctions reinstated by the US when it withdrew from the accord in 2018.

According to the reports, France, Germany, and the UK did not accept Iran’s argument and want Iran to move forward carefully with its nuclear project and to avoid fueling further tension in the region.
