GLOBAL DEATH TOLL RISES TO 10,000 AND CASES PASS 250,000

The death toll from coronavirus passed 10,000 as Spain became the fourth country to report more than 1,000 fatalities.

The UAE announced its first deaths on Saturday morning. The victims were a 78-year-old Arab man who had returned from Europe and a 58-year-old Asian man.

The first died of a heart attack “that coincided with complications from the virus” and the second had pre-existing chronic diseases.

In the UK, restaurants, cafes and bars were told to close as the government unveiled an economic package to pay the wages of people who are not working.

Iran, the centre of the pandemic in the Middle East, said 149 more people have died, as the country marked the Nowruz New Year.

About 86,000 patients have recovered, more than a third of 244,000 cases health authorities have reported since the outbreak.
