◼️ Money is stressing South Africans out: Money is keeping South Africans awake, affecting their family lives and mental health, but more than four in 10 still avoid talking about their finances. More than half of respondents to Nedbank’s latest NedFinHealth Index, at 51%, identified money or financial matters as the biggest source of stress in their lives. The effects extend beyond the bank balance. Financial stress had a high or moderate impact on mental health for 46% of respondents and on family life for 45%, while 43% said it affected their sleep and 42% their self-worth.

◼️ Ramaphosa says new direct international flights are on the cards for SA: Restoring direct flights between South Africa and India would eliminate the need for long layovers in the Middle East or Europe. Ramaphosa said that South Africa aims to leverage India’s strengths in pharmaceuticals and health technology to enhance local production of medicines and vaccines. “India’s strengths in pharmaceuticals and health technology can support our ambition to expand the local production of medicines and vaccines,” said Ramaphosa.

◼️ ‘We are scared as women,’ say Kempton Park residents after fifth body is found: She was one of five women who have been found dead in Kempton Park and the adjacent area since July, with the killings prompting police to intensify investigations, while warning the public against speculation that a serial killer may be operating in the area. The latest victim was discovered on Monday morning after a passerby spotted her body on Porcelain Avenue in Olifantsfontein and alerted authorities. The unidentified woman was found partially naked and bruised in the street, where police suspect she was dumped.

◼️ Growing school violence puts focus on teacher safety: The admission comes as teacher unions warn that teachers are increasingly facing verbal abuse, threats, intimidation and physical violence, with some reportedly leaving the profession because of hostile working conditions. “An educator cannot be expected to perform their professional responsibilities effectively while being subjected to threats, insults, intimidation or violence,” The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) said. “The safety and dignity of educators must be treated as a fundamental condition for quality education.”

◼️ System to stop millions of spam calls launching in SA: Truecaller recently revealed that South Africans were targeted by 17.47 billion spam calls in the first 6 months of 2026. This is according to Truecaller director of market development for South Africa, Mmathebe Zvobwo, who added that, in July 2026, sales calls accounted for nearly two-thirds of all spam calls in the country. The opt-out registry has been designed to protect South African consumers from such abuse, and direct marketers could face penalties of up to R1 million or 10% of their turnover for violating spam call rules.
