Fri 27 August 2021:
According to the European Commission, more than 350 million COVID-19 Digital Certificates have been granted in the European Union, accounting for 78.4 percent of the bloc’s total population.
“More than 350 million EU Covid Certificates have already been issued. An #EUCovidCertificate is a proof that a person has either been: vaccinated | tested negative | recovered from COVID-19,” the commission tweeted.
The EU Digital Certificate is a QR code that contains vital information about the user and can be issued by hospitals, test and immunization centers, and other organizations within the European Union.
The certificate’s goal is to allow for safe and unrestricted mobility within the union by identifying persons who have been vaccinated, recovered, and tested negative for COVID-19.
On July 1, 2021, the European Union launched digital COVID-19 certification, with 200 million certificates issued in the first few days.
