Fri 27 August 2021:

The International Air Transport Association has asked governments throughout the world to adopt the European Union’s Digital Covid Certificate as the worldwide vaccine certification standard.

IATA Deputy Director General Conrad Clifford said in a statement on Thursday that the EU’s vaccine passport could serve as a model for other countries.

Although some certifications or digital applications attesting to the holders’ low-risk status have been established, there is currently no universal standard.

The DCC is particularly effective, according to IATA, because it is available in both paper and digital formats, with a QR code that can be read in both, and it includes a gateway for the dissemination of encrypted data that may be extended to issuers beyond the EU.

In addition to the 27 EU members and nations with reciprocal agreements, such as Switzerland, Turkey, and Ukraine, IATA estimates that up to 60 countries are interested in using the DCC specification for their own certification.

Non-aviation locations in Europe that require confirmation of vaccination, like as museums, athletic events, and concerts, are also accessible with the passport.
