Wed 28 December 2022:

In the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2022, more than 829 million cyberattacks were prevented globally, with 59% of the websites affected being in India.

The analysis noted a sharp increase in the severity and frequency of DDoS and bot assaults in Q4 compared to Q3, according to application security provider Indusface.

According to Ashish Tandon Founder and CEO, Indusface. “In this quarter, we saw almost 20 applications of a healthcare customer get targeted by DDoS attacks. We also saw a SaaS application hit with a 2TB attack. In both cases, the attacks were quickly thwarted with AI sending out anomaly alerts and a managed services team deploying surgical rules.”

The report says that mid-market companies with revenues between $10 million to $1 billion have been subjected to 45 per cent of the cyberattacks, and only 21 per cent were large enterprises with over $1 billion in revenue.

Small businesses, on the other hand, accounted for 34 per cent of attacks, implying that every business is vulnerable to such attacks.

However, the ability to create custom rules has stood out as a key enabler of cyber security.

On an average, each enterprise deploys 48 custom rules, and 60 per cent of all attacks were blocked using these custom rules, according to the report.

The study also emphasizes the rise of “virtual patching” as a defense strategy for Web Application Firewall-level apps.

During the final 60 days of the observation period, DDoS attacks had an impact on 32% of all apps, according to the research.

Banking, insurance, and other financial services industries, followed by IT services, and manufacturing firms, were the top three segments most vulnerable to attacks.

Retail/e-commerce and SaaS/IT products both have a decent 9% share of the market.

According to the research, 59% of the websites were located in India, with the remaining 23% in the US and Canada.
