Mon 22  August 2022:

Commander-in-chief of Ukraine, said on Monday, about 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since Russia’s invasion started, according to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

Valeriy Zaluzhny told a forum that Ukraine’s children needed particular attention “because their fathers have gone to the front and are maybe among the nearly 9,000 heroes who have been killed”.

Ukrainian officials have only very rarely given any detail on military losses in nearly six months of war.

The last estimate dates back to April when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that up to 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed and 10,000 injured.

5,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or injured

Last month White House officials reportedly told lawmakers in a classified briefing that More than 75,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded in the country’s invasion of Ukraine,

Representative Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) told CNN Wednesday that the toll was “huge,” and the officials had also made it clear that “over 80% of [Russia’s] land forces are bogged down, and they’re tired.”

A week earlier CIA Director William Burns said an estimated 15,000 Russian soldiers had been killed, and 45,000 were likely wounded—it’s a military rule of thumb that the tally of wounded individuals outnumbers death tolls by three to one.
