ASTEROID TWICE THE SIZE OF EMPIRE STATE BUILDING TO FLY PAST EARTH

News Desk World

Thu 09 September 2021:

A massive asteroid about twice the size of the Empire State Building in New York will travel past Earth on Thursday, according to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s asteroid database browser.

The asteroid, known as 2010 RJ53, is around 774 meters in diameter and will pass by the globe today.

The asteroid will pass Earth at a distance of 366,000 kilometers, which means it will be closer to the planet than the moon.

2010 RJ53, on the other hand, is extremely improbable to collide with the Earth.

For the next century, NASA has already pronounced the Earth clear of any asteroid threat.

Nearby asteroids are monitored and calculated by researchers and astronomers all across the world, including NASA.

This is to determine whether or not they are a threat.

2010 RJ53 is not the only asteroid that will be flying past Earth during the month of September. As per NASA, there are a total of three asteroids that will be flying close to the planet this month, one of which might even be potentially hazardous for the earth.

Apart from 2010 RJ53, an asteroid called 2021 PT will fly past Earth on September 11, 2021, and 2021 NY1 will zoom past the planet on September 22. The latter is roughly the size of a school bus and has been described as potentially hazardous by NASA.
