The Bharatiya Janata Party government in the Indian state of Gujarat used bulldozers in several places and demolished six madrasas in Kutch area of the state. 36 commercial establishments were also demolished in the area.

According to media reports, the bulldozers came into action in the border coastal area action plan.

After this action, local Muslim organizations came forward to protest. A Muslim organization Akhil Kutch Sunni Muslim Hitarksha Samiti had lodged a complaint with the district collector of Kutch against the action of bulldozers on madrassas in Khawda.

Without notice

A video is going viral on social media. In which a person is saying that the madrasa has been demolished by the administration without any notice or instruction. Due to which now the children have to sit and study in harsh cold weather.

In the video, the person also says that this is our madrasa, which was razed to the ground by the taluka officer without any notice on January 15 at 1.35 pm. We have around 100 children, who are studying in the open air. As for our Madrasa, I am currently 35 years old, I also studied in this Madrasa and this Madrasa is here since independence. It is an appeal to our government that notice is given before any law is followed.

We have not received any notice. If this is done then our government is requested to give us some other place where these children can study.

It may be noted that the mega demolition drive started in Bat Dwarka in the month of October continued for two consecutive days. The local authorities, along with the police force, demolished the commercial and religious structures built by illegal encroachment. It also includes shrines and tombs.

During the Gujarat assembly election campaign in November, BJP workers in Surat campaigned on JCB (bulldozers). The event took place when the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh was on his way for election campaign in the state.

During the election campaign BJP had boasted about using bulldozers against criminals and illegal encroachers in Gujarat too.
