SYRIA: 6 REGIME OFFICERS KILLED IN ISIS ATTACK

At least six members of the Syrian Armed Forces and allied militias were killed on Friday in an attack carried out by Daesh in northwest Syria, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

SOHR also confirmed the deaths of four Uzbek jihadists during an infiltration operation carried out on positions of the regime forces in the Hantoutin axis in the countryside of Maarat Al-Numan, south of Idlib.

Moreover, seven gunmen loyal to the Syrian regime were killed last week in an attack carried out by Daesh in the Deir ez-Zor governorate (eastern Syria).

Despite the military defeat of the terrorist organisation in 2019, its dormant cells are still operating and carrying out ferocious attacks.

In recent months, Daesh cells have intensified attacks on the pro-regime forces in the Syrian Desert, which extends to the Iraqi border in the east. Twenty-six militants loyal to Bashar Al-Assad’s regime died in an ambush in Deir ez-Zor in February.

Large parts of the Idlib governorate are still outside the control of the Syrian Army and some adjacent areas.

Since 2011, Syria has witnessed a bloody conflict resulting in the deaths of 500,000 Syrians, causing widescale damage to the country’s infrastructure and production sectors. Millions of people have been displaced inside and outside the country.
