Fri 14 January 2022:

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday that the honorary military titles and charitable roles held by Queen Elizabeth the Second’s son Prince Andrew had been returned to the Queen. Prince Andrew is currently facing a civil case in the United States for sexual assault.

“With The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen,” a statement published on British Royal Family’s verified Instagram handle said.

The statement added that Prince Andrew would fight allegations against him as a private citizen

The announcement came after a New York judge ruled against the 61-year-old prince, who had attempted to have the case against him dismissed.

Andrew, a former Royal Navy helicopter pilot who served in the 1982 Falkland War, is accused of sexually assaulting Virginia Giuffre when she was 17 years old.

Giuffre claims that the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein used her for sex with his wealthy and powerful associates.

Andrew, the ninth in line to the throne, was forced to resign from royal duties in late 2019 following a disastrous television interview in which he attempted to defend his ties to Epstein.

Due to public outrage at the time, several charities and associations distanced themselves from him, and he has since denied Giuffre’s allegations on numerous occasions.

Since the television interview, he has been rarely seen in public.

According to an AFP photographer, he was seen being driven from his home near Windsor Castle, west of London, on Thursday.

The announcement came after more than 150 veterans of the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and British Army petitioned the Queen to strip Andrew of his ranks and titles in the armed forces.
