Sun 22 August 2021:

The Saudi Ministry of Education declared on Saturday that all unvaccinated pupils over the age of 12 will be barred from attending school unless they are completely vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The education ministry, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, announced at the start of the month that all students and school staff members must be fully vaccinated before the school year starts.

Anyone who has not received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine would be considered absent, according to Minister of Education Dr. Hamad al-Sheikh.

He also emphasized the necessity of putting preventative measures in place in schools to ease the transition back to in-person learning and protect the safety of all students and staff members during the semester.

On August 29, the new school year begins, and health officials want to make sure that all students and staff members are safe of the coronavirus.

“The Ministry of Health will provide vaccines, make appointments available for students targeted for the immunization process, in addition to teachers, faculty members and administrators from the education staff, and provide all possibilities necessary to complete the vaccination operations before the beginning of the academic year,” the two ministries said in a joint statement on August 1.

Al-Sheikh added in the statement that designated teams will check schools ahead of their reopening to ensure they are well-equipped and ready to welcome children and staff securely.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Health, more than 33 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been provided thus far.
