KREMLIN SAYS BRITAIN PARTICIPATING IN WAR AGAINST RUSSIA AS BURNHAM ARRIVES IN KYIV

Mon 24 August 2026:

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday that Britain is taking part in the war against Russia by supporting Kyiv.

During a press briefing in Moscow, Peskov charged that London is obstructing efforts to reach a peaceful settlement.

“Britain is participating in this war. It is participating in this war on the side of the Kyiv regime. Britain methodically and regularly adds fuel to the fire and methodically and regularly hatches schemes to prevent any progress whatsoever in the peaceful settlement process,” he said.

His remarks came as British Prime Minister Andy Burnham visited Kyiv, where he was expected to announce British support for Ukraine’s development of long-range missiles using information on British-made components of the Anglo-French Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles.

The Kremlin said the move would further escalate the conflict.

Peskov said Russian forces were working to identify sites where missiles and other military equipment for Ukraine are produced and taking measures to destroy those facilities.

Commenting on Ukrainian attacks on Russian online retailers Ozon and Wildberries, Peskov said Kyiv was targeting commercial logistics infrastructure for various reasons but would not be able to use such attacks to change the situation on the battlefield.

“Russia’s responses to drone attacks are felt in Kyiv every day, every night — and will continue to be felt,” he said.

Ukrainian drone strikes have increasingly targeted Russian logistics and industrial facilities, including warehouses operated by Wildberries and Ozon.

Andy Burnham pledges UK support for Ukraine

Andy Burnham traveled to Ukraine on Monday for his first foreign visit since becoming UK prime minister, pledging unwavering British support for Kyiv as the country marks the 35th anniversary of its independence.

Burnham is in Kyiv for Independence Day, where he is due to take part in commemorative events and co-chair his first meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, a group of countries working to strengthen support for Ukraine.

He is also set to hand over blueprints that would allow Ukraine to produce its own long-range missiles as Kyiv steps up attacks on targets in Moscow and other Russian regions.

The visit comes after Moscow warned last week of “consequences” over Ukraine’s use of British drones.

Burnham said the Ukrainian people should have no doubt about Britain’s commitment to their country.

“The UK is behind you today and for as long as it takes,” he said in a statement. “I am proud of the contribution our country has made to Ukraine and I want the Ukrainian people to hear it directly from me that our support will not waver. After all, Ukraine’s security is our security.”

He said ties between Britain and Ukraine would continue beyond the war, including during the country’s eventual reconstruction.

“The friendship between our two countries will long outlast Russia’s illegal war,” Burnham said. “In both the fight and in the rebuilding to come, we will stand with Ukraine and deliver opportunities for people across both our countries.”
